Zebra 701 stainless steel space ink convert: problem

I successfully did this all stainless steel convert once…and now I’m tyring to do it on a second pen and the clicker won’t work…it doesn’t have enough room. If I unscrew the writing end a few thread, then it has enough room to click the cartridge in. Anyone have any ideas? Tried cutting springs…no dice.

(for ref…it’s taking the stainless steel clicker from the zebra (301?) and putting it on the 701 giving you a fully SS pen…and replacing the ink with fisher space pen ink

FWIW, the pen works fine with a zebra refil..not the fisher…any ideas?
