KeymasterWho “carries” a mileage tracking app on their smart phone? I’ve been logging in a paper notebook for years, but it’s time to join the 21st century. I’m a ‘Droid user. So, no iOS-only apps. (Although, for the sake of forum members on the Apple platform, it’s perfectly find to post iOS apps in this thread. Please indicate if they are iOS apps, though.)
Requirements:
– Simple interface
– Easy to use
– Quick data entry (voice would be nice)
– No GPS (don’t want to burn battery just to track my mileage)Whatcha got?

KeymasterWhat kind of mileage are you looking to track – running, hiking, backpacking, vehicular movement?

Sorry I wasn’t clearer. I’m looking for an app to track vehicle mileage.January 26, 2026 at 10:44 am #148525admin
KeymasterGoogle drive document? Platform independent so no matter what brand phone you have or might buy later itll be there, cloud stored so no matter if you smash your device data will still be fine….. Can always load it all from any device with a webbrowser and for android/ios you can download an app to access it all to make it all fit the smaller screen easier. There are plenty GPS apps that can track automagically ofc, but if you jsut want a ‘simple’ update to a notebook id say give google drive a try.
Now there’s some debate about the security of stuff on your google drive but its not like your putting vital or super top secret info in there when just tracking mileage and automating some fun functions to calculate stuff….

KeymasterI’d second Westerducth’s advice. Perhaps inside a spreadsheet. What do you do with the data? How do you analyze it and what do you do with the results?

KeymasterGoogle doc seems like a good idea. I wonder if I can put the document on my phone’s screen so I can access it directly without having to access Google docs first. I’ll have to play with that.
As far as analysis, etc. goes, I just want to track the mileage for tax purposes. I need to keep track of when I use my business-owned vehicle for personal use.

The document above “hours” is a spreadsheet I use to track my hours worked, for example. Full write capability. You could probably do a Google search for a template of a miles tracker spreadsheet that works for you, then just load it on your phone.January 26, 2026 at 10:44 am #148529admin
KeymasterYou could just use Evernote. Since your analysis is a total number calculated at the end if the year, you could just track your mileage in a table then calculate on January 1st.

I just started playing with Evernote. Guess I’ll have to figure out how to set up a table.Edit: Looks like you can’t edit a table on the mobile version. Back to the drawing board.

Check out Google forms, you could make a very simple form with just a couple of fields and make a bookmark to that page somewhere on whatever phone or computer you end up using for the process. The form results will be output to a Google sheet and accessible like any other drive document.Verstuurd van mijn SM-N9005 met Tapatalk

That works slick! I made a simple form, set it to dump the results into a Google Drive spreadsheet and pinned it to my phone’s home screen from within Chrome. Thanks for the tip.January 26, 2026 at 10:48 am #148533admin
KeymasterHere’s the shortcut on my phone (circled in red).
Here’s the simple form.
It even uses the standard ‘Droid calendar/time function when you set the data type to Date.

KeymasterI use a free Android app called aCar. It’s quick to put in the vehicles mileage, as well as # of gallons, cost per gallon, and/or total cost (2 of those three). Then it will show statistics for the last fillup, and average MPG since you’ve started using it. You could also enter your old data if you wanted to. There is a paid version that gives you even more data, but I’ve never felt the need for it.

Great to see you got it working! Yeah, im a big fan of google products myself. Especially because you are not tied down to a single device/platform. If you wanna make some silly calculations/pie-diagrams to display stuff about your data you dont have to do it with your android (ofc you could if you wanted to) but you can just hop behind a computer and set it all up! And if you decide to buy the iPhone 7f in a couple years you can still use/add to all your previous data XDI remember when i first ‘discovered’ google form, its like that slick user-interface front end thing i always wish spreadsheets had! You can even make one to, i dunno, take for example lunch orders from colleagues with a form if its your time to do a run and you can keep the spreadsheet viewable to yourself so your work mates dont mess up each-others orders. All google sharing/privacy options are available in combination with all of it. Kind of awesome.

(my worst MPG was 15, my best was 31, average 24)

Basically, a bog standard spreadsheet can do all of that and more depending on how good your skill is with spreadsheets! But if the app works for you and does everything you need/want it to do then thats all that matters right?January 26, 2026 at 10:51 am #148536admin
KeymasterLoving the Google Forms. Just set one up today for a networking/referral group that I’m a part of … to submit and track referrals. Thanks!
