KeymasterJust what the title says…..mods, cleaning, sights/optics, etc.
I have a Glock 17 that has been good to me for about 4 years. Only thing I did to her when I first bought her was drop a ghost trigger bar in it. Actually a guy at the range did it for me, and if I remember correctly, he didn’t do any of the springs. So here lately, the bug has bit again, and I’m hitting the range on a very regular basis, and tinkering. In the past several weeks I have done a detail strip (first for me….I was a little intimidated, but found it to be very easy), polished trigger parts, and changed stock sights to Dawson FO front/Heine rear. I have a Ghost Pro 3.3 trigger kit coming, which requires a little “fitting” for it to work….we’ll see if it makes a difference.
I’d like to see/hear from anyone tinkering……but anyone that shoots competition really interests me.

KeymasterMy G17 (Gen4) is my IDPA gun. I put in a Double Diamond 3.5 connector, a Zev Plunger, a fiber-optic front sight and did the $.25 trigger job.
I would not change out the springs. Could be finicky after.
Honestly at this point, I think I’m done with upgrades. My main goal is reliability.
For fast paced shooting competition, I think aftermarket barrels and the spring kits are overkill. you will not get the most out of a race trigger or a precision barrel to justify the cost.
Edit: I may put an extended slide release on it.

Click to expand…I guess that’s why the gunsmith didn’t put the springs in with the first ghost. I remember him saying something…but can’t remember….I think I was distracted by the flood of new info happening at the time. I’ll try them just to see what’s up…
There is so much out there…hard to say what’s good and what’s not. So many opinions and personal preferences.
I was looking at the Zev plungers yesterday……worthwhile investment?
ETA: Is that plunger titanium? I’ve been reading they don’t hold up well…?December 15, 2025 at 11:49 am #132953admin
KeymasterI think with the springs you can get light strikes (forgot most of what I heard) so that to me is an absolute deal breaker.
Until you (and me) hit the big time, we will not benefit under stress from a 2lb trigger pull when the clock is ticking. Squeeze slap slap slap lol
Yup, lots out there, and no hands on with the accessories. If you do try things, my advice is do one thing at a time. See how you like it and if its reliable, then add the second item.
I just installed it (zev plunger) on both my 17 and 41 so no feedback yet. But its nice and smooth which is the whole theory behind the .25 polish.
I’m shooting an IDPA tomorrow (and will keep the original one with me). Bet I don’t notice much.
This one (Zev) I believe is steel (stainless?)
In my opinion (and I’m a Mechanical designer) avoid Ti as it is soft and will wear. The coated ones will last longer, but still. No need to save a less than a gram.
One thing I thought of was a better barrel. BUT they have tighter chambers. So cheap wallymart and surplus ammo might be an issue feed and eject wise.

KeymasterI’m interested to see if you notice anything with the zev plunger. And the only ones I have seen are the titanium version….and have heard mixed reviews.
Thanks for the comments! And good luck tomorrow!

KeymasterI shoot USPSA pistol and multi gun…my G34 and it’s predecessor G17 have been extremely reliable, and have had only my reloads as problems… I don’t like multiple counter wound recoil springs (my G42 is an exception) and are Gen 3’s with un captured hardened stainless guide rods and ISMI springs (heavy 17#)… factory (-) connectors and some polishing of the safety plunger, trigger bar, and striker foot… standard helper trigger spring… Heinie Slant Pro rear and Dawson (on the 34) and Heinie Slant Pro front and rear on the 17… JP button on the 34 (Limited minor not Production)
I shot a poor match with the pistol at Ft Benning 3 gun in 2010, and changed out the 34 barrel to a Briley, but found most of the poor accuracy was due to 115 bullets… switching to 147s cut the 30y groups in half

Will do, quick dry fires seems to be good after I swapped it. I swapped it quick and tossed it back into my bag. I’ll report backThanks!

KeymasterEach of my Glocks get a 3.5lb connector, factory extended slide release, and either fiber-optic or tritium sights… for me that is all they need to be… perfect. 😉

KeymasterRecently? Not much.
Overall….
Springfield RO .45 (USPSA SS gun)
-Dawson Ice magwell (recently re-attached with a bunch of loctite because it kept twisting)
-Dawson arched MSH
-Heavier main spring (light strikes)
-Heavier recoil spring (FTRTBs…like, a lot of them)
-Dawson FO front
-larger ambi safetyUpcoming: fixed rear, probably a recoil spring change if I switch to 185gr ammo…with 230, whether it’s true or not, I feel like I’m sitting around waiting for it to finish. It’s out getting a trigger job now because the hammer was following the slide forward occasionally…smith says it wasn’t far from going full auto on me…which sucks because it’s like a year and a half old and only 6000 rounds or so. So, new seer and a polish job are in order. Possibly some other parts. I’m also slowly replacing all of my chip McCormack mags with Wilson Combat because the CMs are unmitigated garbage.
M&P 9 PC Ported CORE (competition and EDC):
-Trijicon RMR RM07 with the electrical tape mod and blue loctite.
….Uhh…that’s it. Eventually, it’s getting an Apex kit with the flat faced metal trigger and all the goodies. The thing has been :censored: near 100% since the day I got it. The RMR…less so, but I got the kinks worked out. Several of my mags have Taylor Freelance extensions, which have also been 100%, as have the factory mags. I don’t like the stock sights much, but they’re not bad enough to care about changing.
Daniel Defense v11 (competition, short range bug-out/wrol):
-vortex Spitfire 3x
-BCM gunfighter charging handle
-ambi safety
-Precision Armament m4-72 severe duty compensatorI’ll complete the lefty-transformation eventually. That comp throws a LOT of gas back at the RO, which I think is funny. Eventually, it’s going to get a Geissele SD-3G trigger installed….probably. It doesn’t matter for short range. I just put a sling on it, but they’re all the same. I really should do BUIS, but…I just don’t want to. I’m not intending to go into combat, and the spitfire has an etched reticle, so…anything that would take it out would obscure BUIS without taking it off…which is a huge :censored:. I’ll probably get a light for it eventually.

KeymasterMy edc G19 has been modded a little and has been perfectly reliable:
Way of the Gun sights w/red fiber optic
Suarez International flat trigger
Frame stipple & double undercut by Zev Technologies
Vickers baseplate so on the mag(s)December 15, 2025 at 11:50 am #132962admin
KeymasterOh yeah….I forgot about my glock 19….
Shows how much I like it…
Anyway, it has Trijicon HD night sights, a double undercut trigger guard, finger bumps removed, and a stock-parts trigger job done by the guy who built the first .357 Sig glock (as a hobbyist project), plus the trigger off a g34 (without the ribs).
It’s a great gun…I just don’t care much for glocks.

Keymastermoostapha… stick a heavy 22# recoil spring in with 230s and give it a try, you won’t have to wait to recover from muzzle flip, and I never had a cartridge not go into battery… it will take a set to around 18#

Yeah, the gun had issues. None of the spring changes were by choice.I’ll look into that, but trying 185 is free. And there’s no real cost difference for ammo.

KeymasterI picked up a Gen 2 G19 recently (LEO trade-in)…had laser engraved stippling done by Rock Your Glock and added a set of AmeriGlo sights.
