KeymasterWell, unfortunately some of us do need ‘steenking’ badges (credentials). In fact, if we don’t have them you might as well go home because you’re not going to work. They don’t care if you forget your wallet, but you ain’t going anywhere (except on the ground) in the facility without credentials, zero, nada, zilch! Plus, all badges must be displayed between the shoulder and belt on your outer most article of clothing…ALWAYS!
I suspect there are others here who have a similar EDC thing with badges. So, what methods do you use for carrying/displaying badges? Some people are lucky enough to only have a single badge…I’m not so lucky. I have to carry (12). Historically I’ve always used EK badge lanyards and they have worked pretty well for the 20+ years I’ve used them. They’re purpose built for just this type of thing. Like anything though, they do wear out periodically. And, it’s that time again where I have to replace my existing lanyard.
I usually use the type with two split rings connected with fastex clips so the badges can be removed to present to readers, and personnel. In my configuration (10) badges are on one ring, and (2) are on the other. Because the ring lays flat, I’ve come up with a rather ingenious way to make the badges lay flat also (which they wouldn’t after being threaded through the split ring. It also keeps the badges facing the proper way (outwards). What I do is use another type of badge clip to thread through the badges (so they’re like a rolodex kind of) and then clip onto the braided nylon holding the split ring to the lanyard (just below the fastex buckle). I push the back of the metal clip through the split ring for an extra safety measure to prevent loss. Works very well.
I’m always open to new ideas though, and given it’s time to replace the current set up I thought I’d check here on EDCF to see what kinds of ideas others had. I didn’t see a similar post so I thought I’d start a new one.
Ideas appreciated.
P.S. I should probably add, the lanyard arrangement is not light duty (at all!). These things must endure daily wear, day in and day out, rain, wind, snow, repeated removal and changing of clothing, etc. They also have to be OSHA breakaway approved. Cheap trade-show type imitators need not apply with these things.
