Cleaning a knife with taking it apart?

WITHOUT* taking it apart. Fail.

So I have an SOG Flash I that has dust, dirt and concrete on it (not dried). I would like to clean and lube it, but the time I took apart a Flash II it didn’t end well (it has a spring in it and is rather hard to put back together).

How should I go about cleaning and lubing this thing? I believe this would be useful for several other knives as well.

You don’t need to take the knife apart, especially with assisted-opening models like the SOG Flash, as they can be difficult to reassemble. A simple cleaning method works best: rinse the knife under warm running water to flush out dust, dirt, and concrete, then use a soft brush like an old toothbrush to gently scrub around the pivot and locking area. After that, blow out any remaining debris using compressed air if available, and dry the knife completely with a towel and some air drying. Once dry, apply 1–2 drops of a light oil, such as knife oil or sewing machine oil, into the pivot, then open and close the blade a few times to distribute it evenly, wiping away any excess. Avoid using heavy oils or grease, as they tend to attract more dirt over time. This simple flush-and-lube method is effective not only for folding knives but also applies to maintenance routines for tools in similar niches, like trauma shears, where keeping them clean and smoothly functioning without disassembly is equally important.
