Difference between orange peal and smooth reflector?

I bought a Olight M20 with the R2 cree in it.  Just recently I had to make another order with battery junction so tossed the smooth reflector on the order.

For the life of me I cant tell the difference between the reflectors.  One minor thing that I can tell is the smooth might be just a bit more round, but that could be my mind playing tricks.
At a distance of 50 feet the beam hot spot is still roughly the same size, same thing with a distance of 10 feet.
Don’t get me wrong I am very happy with the light, so happy I am getting a second one.

So what am I missing?  Or is it just a geek flashlight thing thinking that a smooth reflector is better then a orange peal one?
