I keep tubes in my car and even in my bob. How many dozens of times has this saved someone?I glued a mountain biker that got both legs cut up badly. He was able to keep his blood and after some juice and snack he was able to even walk his bike down to where we arranged proper rescue…
It kept the guy alive we were not worried about infection. We bought him time to get to the doc 60 miles away.
I am having trouble picturing this. Glue saved an extremity wound that would have been life threatening? It would help if you could explain what it was? What was the thinking with the drink and the snack?January 10, 2026 at 10:28 am #144923admin
KeymasterI use liquid bandage on wounds that have thoroughly cleaned and have begun scabbing over when I’m going surfing to protect from infection. Several coats seem to provide a good seal. In a pinch I could see it being a good quick fix, but without cleaning I would think you could seal in bad stuff and increase the chances of infection. I’ve always heard that super glue is the same thing, which doesn’t appear to be quite right, take the info found here with a grain of salt, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_bandage . After reading some articles it looks like Dermabond is stronger than Liquid Bandage (although they are very similar), and super glue is irritating to skin in comparison to cyanoacrylate-based products designed for wounds.

Keymaster+1 on sealing cracks in dry skin…the heels on my feet get so cracked that they bleed and it is painful to walk, but a little super glue, and all is right again.

KeymasterI use it all the time for small cuts. It works great. I’ve bought liquid bandage and from the label it reads like the same stuff. Certainly seems to work the same too.

Have you had yourself checked for Diabetes, it can be a symptom but it is unlikely that said it’s a quick test.January 10, 2026 at 10:29 am #144927admin
KeymasterI hear some people carry Dermabond with them – it’s like a superglue especially for human skin. Looked into it a while ago and decided that it is waaaaay too expensive. I also decided to leave it out because I am not a surgeon of any sort – and from what paramedics have told me, some steri strips should do just as well (and they come at a fraction of the cost) – anything you can’t fix with those is presumably too big to seal up with Dermabond anyway and therefore something for a doctor to take care of.
I can live with that…
P.S.: I have not read through the entire thread, so it is entirely likely that someone mentioned Dermabond before. In that case, ignore this post 🙂

In the winter, my fingers tend to split and crack open, and good old over the counter, hardware store super glue kicks a band-aids butt. For all the detractors on here, you must not work with your hands, because I have never found a band-aid that will stay on, and I have tried them all, even water proof, finger specific band-aids. Furthermore, with the stuff I work with, I am 10x more likely to get an infection from something getting through or under a band-aid. Regular sg seems to work better for me than the liquid band aid, but I’d still take that any day over a regular band-aid for a finger cut.
I would never use it for a deep cut, or in place of medical attention for something that required stitches.

+2I don’t have much to add other than that I recently added this to my EDC pouch, and had cause to use it within like 2 days.
I work at a bar, and it was VERY busy – I was cutting an orange, and cut straight through it to my finger. The cut was not too painful, and didn’t look bad – so a quick dab of superglue plus a bandaid (after washing thoroughly and running under cold water) was WAY quicker than waiting for it to stop bleeding.
To be honest, the main reason I used the glue is because the on-site FAK was out of the good tape I usually use (I usually use a small square of gauze dabbed with neosporin, wrapped generously with tape).
I made sure to clean it when I got home, and it looks to be healing quite well 2 days later.Again, as Chris says: I would not recommend that anyone (nor would I) use it for a really bad/deep/dirty cut.

KeymasterKeep some in my work bag, and my jump kit in the car has some as well. Works pretty well. Although the ones in my work bag are actually DermaBond, not regular superglue

KeymasterI actually just used some Gorilla Glue to mend a split in the skin of my left thumb near the nail. Painful flap of skin, catching on stuff and bleeding. Fixed now.
I would use them, but Dermabond & Vetbond are far too expensive!!! When I used the superglue, it was a single drop to cover a tiny split.

Keymasterdermabond and vetbond are the superior product for wound care.
i use superglue. i can afford it and always find it.
you must thoroughly irrigate the wound. try saline solution, it’s fairly benign.
if the wound is deep use a pressure bandage and go see a doctor. both neosporin and superglue can encapsulate in deep wounds.
supposedly the heat from curing SUPERGLUE has an antiseptic action. the two bonds use a different base ingredient.
i’ve patched my dogs and myself with the stuff. no apparent ill effects. yet.
to answer your question…yes i carry some. once it has been opened i replace it with a fresh container.

KeymasterI work as a surgeon and I sometimes treat small cuts in the faces of patients with glue – but it’s glue designed for treating wounds…..I would never ever use superglue on a patient and neeeeeeever eeeever on myself…
