This is where I keep my Droid-X. Front pocket of my Max-P Lunada. Along with my earphone case, and earplug tube. I also have some hand wipes and lens wips that you can see under the X in the elastic.

iPhone 4 in a Griffin Survivor case. Left side on the belt. Beast of a case. Two part case with a hard case w/ built-in screen protector and a outer case of some kind of thick rubber. Belt clip works either way, so it can be worn screen facing in or screen facing out. It was totally worth the money.

Wow…I was just about to post a very similar thread.

I have had an iPhone 4 with Otterbox Defender since early June (almost 5 months) and carry it in it’s holster, clipped to the small 5th pocket (right front) of my jeans. It has never fallen off or dropped; it’s loose but the clip always catches the top of the pocket. I would prefer to carry it on my belt, but the case rides way too high to be comfortable for my small and pudgy frame. And I frequently use the “magnifier” app to read price tags, receipts and menus, so having it where it is has been very convenient.

But what I have been thinking about lately is theft–someone plucking it from my pocket or out of it’s holster while in public. One of the few things I don’t like about the Defender is the Apple logo window. Don’t get me wrong, I love to show off my iPhone; I just prefer to do it with friends, not strangers. How big is the risk of getting it stolen when it’s carried like this? Granted, the “Find My iPhone” app works surprisingly well, but I don’t want to test it “for real”, and it took me more than a year to come up with the $200, much less $499 (retail) to replace it. Nevermind all the personal and professional info I keep on it (protected, yes, but a good hacker could solve that).

I know folks carry stuff on their belts all the time, but a multi-tool isn’t quite as lucrative or tempting as an iPhone. Am I being paranoid, or is it a realistic concern?

I have been thinking of getting this for special occasions when the Defender is inappropriate.
Would it be more of a risk, or less tempting for theives? Fit is very tight so it won’t slip out, but it’s easier to remove.

The Defender is a beast of a case, but it saved my iPhone from an ear-height drop onto large gravel. Get it from Amazon, though–it was cheaper even with shipping than anywhere else.

I considered the Survivor when I was looking at cases, but I didn’t think it had an opening for the camera. Does it?

Sometimes when I’m just putzing around at home, I’ll keep it naked or in a sleeve from Waterfield/SFbags.

My iPhone 3GS lived in an otterbox defender, my iPhone 4s is currently in a cheap bumper style case, and I am very careful with it.
I am still waiting for my new otterbox defender to arrive.
Once the defender arrives, it will not be coming back out of it again, I am careful with my phone, but it will get dropped, the defender protected my 3GS for 2 years, I’m hoping the new defender will protect the 4s for a similar length of time

    pin

    rivet clip and pin system
pin goes on back of phone with two sided adhesive pad
    clip goes on belt
    marware rubber case

have NEVER dropped phone off belt
pin has NEVER come off phone

simple, easy to get to phone
if bungie jumping or fast roping i suppose i would put in pocket

    adhesive pin secret:
    rough up the surface
put pin on, hold tight till fingers numb
WAIT TWO DAYS TO CURE BOND

if i sit in chair w/ arms the belt clip will come off
    before the pin comes off

pin comes off old phones easy with a razer blade

this would not have worked w/ the Galazy 2 that i test drove for a week
(sent it back, went back to iPhone)

Evo 4G in a Seidio rugged case. Usually lives in one of my pockets. I wear cargo’s a lot, so it stays in one of them mostly

I wonder if I’m the only one who uses a Aegis Trident. Seems like everyone uses the Otterbox.

Depends on the pants. If I have on my 5.11 there is a great front pocket that it rides in and I drop the otterbox soft case.

iPhone in front right pocket. I currently have a bumper style case with a clear back. I tent to switch the case every few weeks. I also keep it in a pocket with nothing else.

Yes, it has an opening for the camera. The camera on the back of the phone is covered up by a small tab. All you do is pull the tab out of the way and it plug into a small slot further down the phone so the tab will stay out of the way of the camera. I love mine, and it can definately take a beating. It makes the phone larger than what it already is, but I will sacrifice the size for the excellent protection. I wish I could take pictures, but I use my phone to take the picture so that complicates things.

    Hi,
I carry a Blackberry Bold 9700 in an otterbox Defender and an SE Xperia in an Otterbox Commuter.

The Otterbox cases added considerably to the overall size of the phones, the only acceptable method of carry was in pouches on my belt. So I ended up (after a lot of searching with) two 5.11 GPS / Strobe pouches, you can see them in this pouch review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we77oRlRKiM

    I hope this helps you.

I also have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 in an Otterbox Commuter. The X10 lacks the fancy Gorilla Glass, and I’m also clumsy, so it was really really important to me that I have a case that had an edge that protruded above the screen.

Sorry, you ask for non-pocket carry, but I do carry mine in my pocket, but it’s the special thigh pocket that LAPG pants (and many TAD pants) have. They almost seem made for each other, except for on very hot days when even my thigh is getting a bit sweaty. I can hardly imagine carrying it any other way.
