    It’s getting cold and dreary(ier) around the Seattle area and since I don’t have an umbrella I figured it would be worth getting a good one. Much to my surprise the company that makes the “Unbreakable Umbrella” aka “Self Defense Umbrella” just came out with a telescopic one :D.

    Without going into a formal review, here are the cliff notes:

    * $249 shipped with an extensive 5 year limited warranty and a spare canopy (The premium non-telescopic is $229 and standard is $129)
    * Aluminum subframe and fins same as the premium non-telescopic (standard is fiberglass)
    * 18″ closed, 27″ open

    * Just over 1 pound
    * Glassbreaker tip
    * No branding at all, identical to a normal umbrella

    It’s extremely sturdy feeling and operates very nicely. The rubberized aluminum handle is comfortable. You wouldn’t think anything other than it being a very quality product made in Europe.

    A cautious thwack on your leg screams in pain. My brother described hitting himself similar to taking a Muay Thai chop kick (deep pain, not a superficial sting). He was complaining about the it 30 minutes later and that was a light self-inflicted hit! At full swing it would certainly be scary and unexpected. The videos online are silly but don’t listen to the doubters…this thing is really solid.

    I ordered it after seeing the spokesperson cracking coconuts on his Youtube channel, lol. It’s far less gimmicky than I expected. It will be nice for walks in the city without looking strange. I’ll probably get one of their standard models as well.

    Personally, I think these would be great in the forum store :)
