KeymasterI need some suggestions for a new phone because my old one got stolen tonight. I was out playing hockey and some %#<>!? piece of #}**%^#! €£=¥+*#?!!! Went through the locker room and stole a bunch of phones and one wallet. Luckily the jerk only took my phone and left my wallet (with cash) knives, flashlight and keys. I don’t necessarily miss the thing but I lost all the pictures of my daughter and wife and pets and friends. Foolish me didn’t back up either. C’est la vie. So go back your stuff up and any suggestions what I should get next would be great. Thanks.

KeymasterI have insurance on the phone and I am due for an upgrade. So cost shouldn’t be too much of an issue, fingers crossed. And I’m on verizon and have had pretty good experience with them.
One of the first things one of the guys asked was whether anyone had that app. Sadly no.February 4, 2026 at 1:46 pm #151518admin
KeymasterAre you planning on getting a smartphone?
With a smartphone, on both Android and IOS, there are a few options to backup pictures so something like that can never happen again.
I once lost all the pictures I took of my daughter since she was born up until a year ago. Luckily I was able to to retrieve some of the pictures and had backups I forgot about. But, it was a very painful lesson.
Backup, backup, backup.
With that being said. The two phones I’m contemplating getting on my next upgrade are iPhone 5S and Note 3. Still flip flopping between the two. Like Android, but find things too buggy and laggy for me. But, with the iPhone 5S I’ll be going to a smaller screen.

KeymasterSorry to hear about your phone. I prefer Android phones since I do not like being locked into Apple’s app store etc. So the HTC 1 is a good choice. Also, you can get the free Dropbox account and install app which will sync photos you take to it. This way always have backups of images. Also look at Lookout app for tracking phone and antivirus if go with Android.

KeymasterCaveat:
I used dropbox. I was an early adopter when they moved to 2factor authentication.
It locked me out on my first use. No problem, right? I saved the handy dandy backup code. It should unlock my account, right?
Negative.
There’s no customer support either.
Currently using google+ backup. It’s not the perfect solution (I like IOS photostream better) but works for backup.

KeymasterSamsung Galaxy S4…if you can afford it and if not…get the Samsung Galaxy S3. Get an Otterbox Defender case while you’re at it…:)

KeymasterFor backing up I just drag & drop the photos onto the PC, then they can be moved to a USB stick or wherever.
My son has a Sony Xperia Z. I have an Xperia U, and my other sons have an iPhone and a Nokia Windows phone. We all agree the Xperia Z is easily the best of the bunch. I don’t know how it compares to the Galaxy, but it’s very nice.
