going on a camping/ hiking trip for a whole week to redwoods with some close friends (approx. 8) who are closer to me than family and want to bring gear/ meds/ etc that will allow me to keep them living, should the need arise. I dont have any first nor second hand experience with the area but what I have so far are:
-mind “bottling” amounts of cute little band-aids of various sizes and shapes for every part/orrofice on the body and 5′ roll of water-resistant bandage tape
-gauze roll (2 1/2″ x 12 ‘)
-1 qrt bottle of disinfectant
-Venom bite suction cups
-6 ft surgical tubing
-24 individual packaged alcohol swabs
-12 pellets of smelling salts
-Tweezers and suture kit
-200 tablets Tylenol
-Lip BalmI really can’t think of anything else I may need (sure I will come up with something else tho in a little bit). I’m mainly wondering if any of you have been out there and had something that became needed that I don’t have listed here.

ahh the mole skin, thats what I was forgetting. I am in no way, shape or form a doctor, but I was in scouts and completed numerous first aid tasks and recieved many different badges for my efforts, as well as have family in the nursing field for Kaiser,mission and som eother hospital I dont know the name of out in missouri.I dont have medical expertise nor am I an idiot, If I dont know about a certain piece of equipment for first aid, which there is little I dont know, I will learn how to. as far as distance or where exactly, im not sure. Im just the dude with the truck and all the gear and everything for camping. I dont imagine its gonna be in a hell hole 2 days away from anything, but from what ive heard from my buddy (who him and his g/f planned the whole trip out) its “only a couple hours from anything”.

I guess I should have asked how far you will be from an ambulance and/or hospital…also, some 3″x3″ or 4″x4″ gauze pads wouldn’t hurt, and possibly a couple/few triangular bandages…
since you are going to be in the woods, you should be able to find plenty of wood to create a makeshift splint (if need be)…
also, I’d take some itch relief spray and/or calamine lotionfor some more ideas, go on youtube and search “nutnfancy first aid”, and check out some of his videos
+1 to more gauze and sterile pads.
Chances of needing those over sutures and smelling salts is pretty high.
I might go with individually packaged anti-septic wipes over the 1/4 bottle, no need to find a swab and wonder if it’s clean.Not that it’s first aid but sunscreen, insect repellent, and maybe a anti-itch cream or spray.
im going to have my cell phone because youd have to be stupid to not to. it will be off for most of the time except for being on and on silent mode when we hike, I have a Garmin GPS I picked up a couple months ago to give coordiantes to in case I have to call 911 or something, but im sure there is ambulance or something rather close by, in the case of a venomous snake bite tho, im not sure it can arrive WITHIN 30 minutes. but thanks for all the suggestions. I think I have most basis covered and ppl say “mole skin” and “relief spray” and 20 extra things that I didnt have just pop into mind lol. Thanks again for the help guys 🙂

http://www.patient.co.uk/doctor/Snake-Bites.htmIf help is coming in less than a day then I’d forget the sutures (Not first aid really) Just in case I’d add in some decent trauma kit like a field dressing or 2, CAT tourniquet and quickclot for when can’t use the torniquet. Some airways could also save a life if you know how to insert them and most of all for that large a group a PLB and or Sat phone in case you are out of cell phone coverage.
You don’t need the snake bite kit (especially the kind with rubber suction cups), the sutures, the tubing, or the smelling salts.
And should you think that you DO need the snake bite kit, ESPECIALLY don’t try any field surgery for ‘cut and suck’.

The Doc hath spoken…Why don’t you go to the Atwood-Carey and AMK websites to look at their first aid kits. They provide a list of contents for kits that vary based on number of people and lenght of trip. That’s a good starting point for your list of contents. Add thngs that you know you might need like antacids, pepto, benedryl, immodium, etc. You state that you’re going to “redwoods”. Does that mean Redwoods National Park or some other location? If you’re going to Redwoods National Park, that covers everything from mountain rain forest to the beach. The redwood forest itself has places with very steep terrain and centurys old redwood trees up to and even over 10′ in diameter, covered in moss, lichen and ferns, lying on the ground like
