I keep playing with a S&W 44mag with a scandium frame & titanium cylinder. $1100. Man I bet it’s almost as painful behind it, as it is in front of it. But I still want it. Makes carrying concealed 44mag a possibility.Have gun, Will travel.

KeymasterThinking about a number of things. I almost bought a Shield for Summer IWB carry, but decided again that my G19 conceals just fine. Hot weather is barely around in Minnesota. Thinking i’ll buy the shield for Coat pocket carry in the Fall and Winter when I find a good price.

KeymasterBreak down the Glocks real quick using the 17 as the standard since it was the first.
Gen 1 had same texture over the entire frame with no finger grooves nor rail.
Gen 2 had same texture as Gen 1 but only on part of the frame. Still no finger grooves or rail.
Gen 3 had change in texture, finger grooves added, and rail.
Gen 4 had change in texture (LEO’s loved the texture of the RTF, but it destroyed uniforms so Glock toned down the aggressiveness some.), dual capture recoil spring (noticeable in the .40s), enlarged magazine release that is also reversible for the lefties, smaller frame (the frame is 2mm smaller from front to back to accommodate the backstrap. If you add a medium backstrap it becomes same thickness as a Gen 3), and the added back straps. The best way to tell the difference in frame is to use a 17/22 and hold it in your hand and then try a Gen 3. You will notice a difference. Gen 4 is also the generation that they switch from Teflon coating to the nitride coating (thanks EPA). So because of of the EPA banning the Teflon coating for the US made guns that are basically made for export Glock is changing to the same nitride coating for guns worldwide. Something about having to save the blue field mouse or some bullcrap.

KeymasterLots of love for Glocks and 1911s here and rightly so. But I an all gunned up right now. In fact I am over gunned. Never thought I would say that. But there is one area I am totally lacking. Cap and ball. Now before you get out the tar and feathers, hear me out.
I think most of us have a big empty space in our collections where C&B wants to live. Think of it, a whole new area of guns to research, collect, master. And they are cheep. You work the annual sales and you can have your pick for under $200 (revolvers). Yes there is a lot of other stuff you need to get. But that’s half the fun.
You can play at CAS events. If you don’t think honing your skills at a CAS event will improve your performance with your carry gun you have never been where the lead was flying in anger. CAS is not like standing on the line at a range and sending lead down range. There is the pressure of the clock and knowing the time you need to beat. The noise, shooting from other events, the yelling of the crowd, countdown of the clock, every mistake you make being called out.
I will not pretend that playing in a CAS event is anywhere close to being in a real hot exchange. The targets still are not shooting back. It is still play. But at the end of my first CAS event I was soaking wet (sweat), out of breath and adrenaline was leaking out of my ears. I don’t have that happen to me at the range.
Then there is the history for those that enjoy that sort of thing (I do). History you can hold, fire, work it the way it was back in the day.
And for those of us looking to get in some trigger time and save money. C&B is the cheapest shooting you can do. Cast your own lead and it feels free compared to breaking out my 1911. There are guys that even make their own powder and caps.
You can get a feel for what it was like in the good old days. They will ship C&B right to your door and all that is needed with it, in most states (check your local laws). Conversion cylinders are available for almost all models to switch to cartridges (also shipped to your door IMS).
Have I got anyone’s interest yet? I have been borrowing from a friends C&B collection long enough. Time to start my own.
So in answer to the question ask. My next gun will be a Remington 1863 44 C&B clone. I think Santa may help with this one.
A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul. I guess that makes me just a giant Peter. There will come a day when the Peters get tired of this. That will be an interesting day.

KeymasterJust bought a Springfield XD Mod 2 9mm. As for my next “next” handgun I’m debating between an XD Service model or a CZ 75 compact model.
